A Survey of Hengshui City

Hengshui City is situated on the vast plains of north China, in the southeast of Hebei province. It is about 250 km from Beijing and Tianjin, an important trading port. It connects the coal, steel and iron base of Xingtai and Handan. There are one district, two cities and eight counties--Taocheng district, Jizhou City, Shenzhou City, Zaoqiang county, Wuyi county, Wuqiang county, Raoyang county, Anping county, Gucheng county, Jing county and Fucheng county under Its jurisdiction. It covers 8815 square km with apopulation of 4.07 million. Rich Product Resources Hengshui City has rich agricultural by- products and landresources with an average cultivated
land, food, cotton and oil more than that of Hebeiprovince and the country. Seven counties of Hengshui City are national grain base and six the cotton base. Hengshui is teeming with cotton,wheat, corn, bean, peanut and sesame. It is also rich in fruits. Fucheng pear sells well in foreign countries and Shenzhou honey peach enjoys a high fame in China. The vegetable of Raoyang county, Jing county and Wuyi county sell well in Beijing, Tianjin and other parts of northeast of China. Hengshui has rich mineral product resources. The first one is oil. The initial probed reserves are 30 million tons. The second is the geothermal energy. According to the survey, Hengshui has better condition for terrestrial heat storage. Its geothermal gradient is 3.16℃/100m. The third is mineral water. Through the measurement of the Mineral Water Developing Research Center of the Geological Sciences Institute of China, Shenzhou has 33 square km underground mineral water around it with the reserves of 300 million cubic meters. Convenient Transportation and Communication In Hengshui City, the roads and railways crisscross and extend in all directions. The asphalt roads connect all the towns together all over the city. Post and communications are developing rapidly. The inland communication develops rapidly. Every town of the city has its own program-controlled telephones respectively. There are 300,000 program-controlled telephones in Hengshui that can directly dial 2200 cities and counties in China and over 180 countries and regions in the world. The Jingjiu Railway meets Shide Railway here, making Hengshui an important transportation hub from Beijing in the north to Kowloon, Hongkong in the south, connecting Jinghu railway to the east and Jingguang railway to the west and a new place of gathering people, goods and information. So it is regarded as "the golden crossing". Complete Range of Industries Hengshui has a complete range of industries with rational distribution. An open and integrated industrial system has been set up with the materials of chemical industry, textile industry, light industry, building materials, food industry, machinery, medicine and metallurgy. The main products are coal, steel, cement, chemical fertilizer, electrical machinery, cotton yarn, cloth, clothing, food, drinks, battery, wine, dyestuff, the chemical industry products, water pump, heating radiator, furniture, safe and handicraft articles. Some are products of high quality in China and sold well at home and abroad.
Abundant Energy Resources Hengshui Power Plant, the largest power plant in the Southeast of Hebei is set up. It's two 300 thousand kW generating units have been running. The Diversion Works from Yangtzi River and Huanghe River are developing rapidly. After completing the two projects, we can get 560 million cubic meters of water. Hengshui
